I was friendly with many of the people mentioned in this story, including Richard Meale, David Malouf, Jim Sharman and Jim Waites.
Meale, Sharman and Waites have all passed on. The opera Voss was a massive event in everybody's life; and proudly regarded as a pinnacle of the country's cultural achievements.
A scene depicting Richard Meale's funeral is contained in the book Hunting the Famous. He became an increasingly difficult recluse in his final years. At the time this was written, Meale would regularly invite a group of us around to his house, including Ian Farr, where the party went on into the early hours...
