AUSTRALIA Post wants to lift the price of an ordinary postage stamp from 45 cents -- which it has been for a decade -- to a neat 50 cents.
But Australia Post is no ordinary business, and it's easier said than done.
First, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission must embark on a travelling roadshow to consult key "stakeholders", as public servants call thepublic.
The roadshow was in Brisbane yesterday, where five people showed up for the forum. It is in Townsville today and will be in Sydney tomorrow, Adelaide on Thursday and Perth on Friday. Next week, it will be in Hobart, Melbourne, Tamworth, Canberra and Darwin.
Why? As ACCC chairman Allan Fels says, it is important that the public be given every opportunity to express its views to the ACCC and "these forums will enable it to consult as many consumers as possible".
